Duty of the Position

The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist is a member of the diagnostic staff of Radiology Services. The technologist is responsible for the operation of diagnostic and fluoroscopy imaging equipment and for performing examinations. The Radiologic Tech must maintain a high standard of ethics while providing quality patient care. Through proper credentialing, the technologist must be ARRT (R) registered with current certification.

Position responsibilities

Daily Duties
Follows patient safety guidelines, organizational policies and procedures, professional standards of performance, best practices and regulatory requirements related to patient care and quality.
Exhibits competency in relation to performance in all radiography and fluoroscopy procedures and equipment for given level.
Understands and incorporates the policies of HIPAA into daily work habits.
Displays appropriate behavior in regards to giving and receiving constructive feed-back. Works towards departmental goals.
Competent in the usage of Pyxis, if applicable.
Maintain a professional appearance by adhering to the departmental dress code and maintaining a stocked, clean work environment.
Has an understanding and realizes the importance of JCAHO standards.
Demonstrates proper radiation safety for patient, self and others within procedure.
Documentation of contrast - type of contrast, amount used, lot number and expiration date.
Documentation of patient information in PACS as needed - patient symptoms, symptoms duration, associated symptoms not included in PACs, relevant surgical and medical history, and explanation for limited study.
Assess patient's current medical status to evaluate changes that require immediate medical intervention.
Maintain a teamwork approach with other staff members. The technologist demonstrates the ability to accept supervision and ask for assistance when necessary.
Charge for procedures, contrast, and patient supplies while maintaining operating expenses.
Attends departmental staff meetings as scheduled and reads departmental e-mails on a regular basis.
Technologist is responsible for daily use, quality control and proper maintenance of equipment. Notify manager and other staff when there are equipment issues.
Knows downtime procedures and is able to practice when applicable.
All exam orders are began, changed, and ended in Radiant
All images are reviewed for quality and then sent to the PACs system for radiologist interpretation; exams are reconciled for interpretation in a timely fashion.
Share in the transport of patients, when able.
Performs Hand-Off Communication to the technologist on the next shift.
The technologist takes call and is accountable for work assignments, if applicable.
The technologist performs other duties as assigned, i.e., C-Arm in OR.
Demonstrates the full range of procedures reflecting appropriate patient care and knowledge for patients ranging in age from neonatal to geriatric.

Effective Communication and Patient Care
Accurately explains all procedures and exams to the patient and family members.
Informed consent is obtained after procedure has been explained and prior to procedure being performed, when applicable.
Respects patient privacy by protecting patient's modesty and dignity throughout procedure.

Job Conditions

Sitting Required to work while remaining in a seated position. Workers may sit to perform activities such as administer patient care, document procedures, and converse with persons regarding patient care.
Standing Required to work while remaining on feet in an upright position without moving about. Workers stand to perform activities such as administer patient care, document procedures, converse with persons regarding patient care.
Walking Required to work while moving about on foot. Worker walks on concrete or tile covered flooring which may be slickened by fluids or patient care debris.
Climbing Required to work while ascending or descending between two points. Workers may choose to climb stairs between floors.

Qualifications

Associate degree is required.
Current R.T. (R) Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technolgist (ARRT.)
CPR Certification is required.
BLS is required.
