Duty of the Position

a. Personal care - assistance with bathing, dressing, personal hygiene and grooming.
b. Meal preparation and assistance with eating, cleaning up and meal preparation.
c. Assistance with transfers, positioning and ambulation
d. Assistance with toileting and continence
e. Light housekeeping including sweeping and dusting, organizing, laundry and linen changing.
f. Assistance with medication that the client is able to self-administer.
g. Transportation for errands, medical and dental appointments, shopping and recreational activities. Transportation is provided by the home care aide (HCA) via the HCA's car.
h. Assisting with communication activities, writing letters and telephone use.
i. Errands.
j. Companionship.
k. Cognitive supervision and family respite for clients with Dementia

Position responsibilities

1. Home Care Aides (HCA) will report scheduled services provided using the Emieric Home health Care's telephony, paper or online system if one is in place.
2. HCA's will follow the client's plan of care and report any changes noted in the client's condition to the registered nurse or Clinical Manager or on-duty supervisor.
3. Will encourage the patient to become as independent as possible, according to the nursing care plan.
4. Prepare visit reports, promptly, and incorporate same in the clinical record, weekly or as required.
5. Work with personnel of other community agencies involved in the patient's care, as directed by the registered nurse or clinical manger.
6. Attends in-service, as required by company policy or regulation.

Job Conditions

1. Must complete a nurse aide training and competency evaluation program approved by the state of California and is currently listed in good standing on the state nurse aide registry; or
the requirements of a state licensure program that meets the provisions of California law
2. Must be free from health problems that may be injurious to patient, self, and co-workers and must present appropriate evidence to substantiate this.
3. Must comprehend the basics of personal care, housekeeping, and meal preparation.
4. Must understand and respect client’s, including ethics and confidentiality of care.
5. Must have current CPR certification.
6. Must have criminal background check.

Qualifications

1.Preferably a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Complete a minimum of five hours of entry-level training.
3. Complete three hours of safety training, including basic safety precautions, emergency procedures, and infection control.
4. Current California registration with the Home Care Services Bureau.
5. Must be over the age of 18, have access to an automobile in good operating condition and hold a valid driver's license and auto insurance.
6. Must be able to speak clearly in English.
